  • Jacked Up

    The following is a minute by minute update recorded by Daniel McGrath and William Little when their passports, wallets, shoes, and other things were stolen at a beach, seven hours from the U.S. Embassy in Honduras.
    This post is dedicated to Judy Ramos.

    THURSDAY - LA CEIBA
    12:00 PM - Go to beach
    3:30 - Backpack stolen - contents: wallets, passports, shoes
            - Begin walking home
    3:45 - Man gives us a ride across river in his boat. Too dangerous to go the other way.
    3:50 - Ride gives us a ride in back of truck
    4:00 - Dropped off on street. Given 100 Limperas. William gives Lynette his shirt to stop whistling men.
    5:00 - Walk to American dudes (approx. 10 mi.) They don't help. Flag police. Wont help. =/
    5:20 - Get money from prostitute (the Rahabs pull through). Bus driver lets us ride free
    5:35 - Dropped off at house. Locked out.
    5:40 - Neighbor gives cell phone.
    5:50 - Dan gets flip flops. William gets shirt.
            - William gets to use bathroom (finally!)
    6:00 - Neighbors (angel) lady take us to police station to file report
    8:00 - Angel lady cooks us food. 7 yr old granddaughter teaches us Spanish. =)
    10:00 - Lynette's Tia's friends give us internet to cancel credit cards and phone home
    11:00 - Tia gives us dinner and lets us stay at her home for the night.
    12:00 - Bed (approx. 6' long X 4' wide for both of us)

    FRIDAY
    8:00 AM - Tia's friend couldn't sleep b/c of us and scheduled appointment at embassy for Monday
            - Breakfast
    8:45 - SDA Mission buys us bus tickets to Tegucigalpa
    9:30 - Church lady gives us money to use internet and go to the immigration office
    10:00 - William cancels cards. Phone US to fax IDs to Embassy
    10:30 - Dan steps in wet concrete [Dan's reaction =/ William's reaction =D =D]
    10:40 - Back at immigration office
    11:00 - Call Embassy
    11:30 - Use taxi money to buy ice cream (must have priorities)
    2:00 PM - Neighbor gives ride to bus station (we would not have made it w/o our taxi money)
    4:00 - Bus leaves La Ceiba. William Gets sick (poisoned intentionally? We'll never know...)
    11:30 - Bus arrives at Tegucigalpa. Lynette's parents pick us up and bring us to their house.
    12:00 - Bed

    SABBATH
    William Sick all day. Dan sick occasionally

    SUNDAY
    5:00 PM - Received money to buy passport pics
    5:30 - Pics received
    6:00 - Watched Super Bowl at Pizza Hut in Mall in Spanish. Only understand penalties.
            - Hondurans think we are nuts (23-27 Steelers. ='( Still a morale booster).

    MONDAY
    7:50 AM - Family we stay with gives us a ride to Embassy
    8:15 - Skip by line of 200 and walk right in (great to be an American)
    8:30 - Fill out applications for new passports
            - Allowed to cut another line of people
            - Free internet :)
    9:45 - Interviewed and received money wired from Dad (thanks for the extra).
    10:15 - Dan talks to his Dad on the phone.
    10:30 - Pay for passports
    11:30 - Passports in hand
              - Embassy calls to get us a ride back to Lynette's.
    1:00 PM - Pay back money we borrowed to watch Super Bowl and passport pics

    TUESDAY
    12:00PM - Go to airport and check in
    12:30 - Security doesn't let us in. No entry dates on our passports. duh!
    12:35 - Go to immigration
    12:50 - Back to security line.
    1:00 - Dan walks through metal/explosive detectors. William told to wait.
    1:03 - William let through after all the Hispanics (Racist).
    1:05 - Walk onto plane
    1:10 - Take off. Never have two boys been so happy.
    3:48 - Land in Miami
    3:55 - Kiss the ground!

    wow Dan.  Thanks for the play-by-play.  This is what having these community blogs is all about: sharing stuff about how God pulls us through.  Thanks for sharing.  (And listening to Judy!)
